This is how my 1978 B/3B starter motor looks like. It has reduction gear. Earlier versions didnt have it. Solenoid shape is one thing that tell that this is toyota starter (not sure if there is 3rd party aftermarket models?). Your starter look like old "straight" starter without reduction gear?

My 1977 BJ-40 with B-engine had that same kind of straight starter. It was with 24V electric system.

Thanks for that comparison photo, yeah seems that it is indeed an older model starter and its mated to a BJ42 Engine that is newer than the car...weird pairing.
Need to figure something out so i can get the car running. It being my daily driver makes for a bit of a rush to get it working. Did find this, wonder if it applies to the starter i have as it is the 74-77 year starter(someone might have used an older BJ as a "spare parts car" for this one before the engine was swapped): http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_197...L-KC_1904.html |
