why do we use manual gearbox Arska-tehtaalta? I like them more than automatic, if you break 1 gear then the gearbox will still work, if it gets very hot - it will still work, it doesnt mind if its upside down - it will still work, if it gets a lot of water in it - no problem <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
for me personally I find it easier to drive manual in swamp than automatic, I get to hear from the noise of the engine how hard it has to work so I can be soooooo gentle and not rip the surface, its also good with manual when you cannot see your wheels - when the pedal in up then you know the wheels are turning, you dont get that feedback with automatic. I dont think one is better than the other - its just preference and what Im used to


apiaani - we use defender seats because they are a lot more comfortable than racing seats, it sounds a little stupid but we drive for long periods and comfort becomes important <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> also these are cheap, they recline, they're not too heavy, you can pull the bottom piece out without tools (in order to reach the battery) and most important they fit my 290kg fat ass!
I dont really like race seatbelts - I know they are safer but we get in and out of the car a lot and I like the fact I can reach something in the car without having to take off the belt, Kim found some nice belts that are race harness but still move - but we cant afford these <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> no offence taken! its the law here that your wheels must be covered when viewed from above, but I think that some pieces may "fall off" soon <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> the good thing about truck mudguards is they are very light and when you push them into trees the bend and then go back to orginal shape, they are pretty cheap as well <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

we look for an airbox- this one is from a Landrover V8, the filter is big enough..


...but it leaks, so out with the Tig again....


....and make a new one


this one keeps the water out - unlike the landrover one


so we make a hydraulic tank at the same time


we fit the windscreen - a nice guy cut 50mm from it (the cab is not as wide as a Defender)


now the engine bay looks a bit more like it


Gear levers (at long last)


hydraulic pump and linkage to make its gearbox work


control block and airbox fitted - we must make the snorkal still


winch gets fitted

offroadjouni - it was a Type R Milemarker, but now its been violated it should be twice as fast, we will see in a few days if the maths is correct, I will take a little video

this weekend we worked so hard, friends came to help and it was like a madhouse in the workshop, heres some more stuff

instrument cover


fuel system bolts to the back of the petrol tank


we ring Roope and ask him what size vacuum tank he has, then we make one a little bit bigger <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>


swirl pot for the coolant system - this lives where the original LS1 steering tank used to be


the radiator we had needed some changes...


and we make some "T" pieces for the cooling system..


its cheaper to make them than to buy them - and this way I know they will fit <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

we make a snorkal and join it to the airbox - the snorkal is 102mm bore
