Maybe this is right model ACE-2853.
There is different warninlights in 2755 and 2853. Price is same.

2853 is the model we have, they cost £109 (about 120 euro) over here, the post cost to ship 3 would be about 35 euro. Maybe not so different in the end after all?

it looks nice, its waterproof and its a lot cheaper than buying lots of different guages- I think its pretty good value for money and it means I have less things to look at in the cab, thats good - I spend more time looking where Im going then

we need to start on the exhaust system soon so little things get done in the mean time - Vince makes flanges to bolt the flexi joints to the mainifolds

its an odd looking thing but it works well


we make a place for the pillow block to live, to get round the gearbox we must use a 2 piece propshaft at the front


The Back axle is finished, it needs paint and everything bolted back into it but that wont take long


We cut some steel up and burn out some holes


then we look at it (we spend too much time just looking at things <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>)


burn a hole and put a flitch tube into it to make it stronger


and then give it somewhere to live

getting the panhard rod this flat means the axle only moves 1mm to the side for every 25mm up or down travel, its not too bad

Kim and Mise say the front winch will be ready next week - we have a lot of work to do before then!

R u gonna use hydraulic winch this time also? Has there been any problems with those, hot oils, brokened hoses, etc. ?
And what if U cant start engine, how do you use winch then, or is there emergency electric motor for hydraulic pump to case like this?

yes we use hydraulics again this year, the winch has a really good combination of power, reliability and speed its difficult to find another way thats better for us.

we have no problems with broken parts - Petals winch was used a lot for long hard pulls, many many times and it just kept going and never slowed down, we never stopped it or had to use a snail for a double pull if you make sure you have good pipes of the right size, a nice big hydraulic tank and use HVI46 oil (it stays stable even at high temperatures) then its very very very reliable. One of our friends winched almost all of a 17km stage at Ladoga in 2006 using the same winch.

if the engine stops then we are in trouble and we have to use the hi-lift to winch us out <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> we dont have have the time to make an emergency electric pump at the moment (maybe we do this later). You can use the pump from a 12 volt small truck as a backup , it would be more sensible to put an electric winch on the back of the car so if the engine dies you can get out of trouble but I like the power to much to give it up <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

If the car is waterproof then you have nothing to worry about; test the car in deep water before competition - drive in, turn off the engine, leave the car underwater for 30 minutes and then go back and start the engine - if it passes this test then its not going to be a problem, so far so good but who knows - this type of engine is new to us<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Just to annoy Harry we get a little bit more done <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

we check the axle clears everything in the up position


and the down


we start to re-assemble the portals


and use our 4340/300M CV joints - these are very strong <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>


paint starts going on


front winch tray starts to be made


and gets welded in


we take a Defender windscreen surround and cut off all the pieces we dont need, then we drill out the welds and take the cast aluminium end off..


.....then we fill in the holes from the drill


cut off the excess from the extruded section


weld it back together and put a strengthening piece along the top


and check it fits
