23 people stopped by police travelling in Toyota LandCruiser Series 60

The haul of humanity was found by police during a RBT inspection overnight on Sunday.

It included 12 children and 11 adults - and it goes without saying that not all were restrained.

Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen described squeezing that many into a Series 60, one of the smaller varieties of LandCruisers, as " a mighty effort".

Car expert Guy Bennetts from Bridge Toyota was staggered to hear of it.

"You could probably legally seat six people in one of those - 23 is crazy, just nuts," he said.

"They're packed to the roof if that's the case. It's like having 12 people in a Toyota Corolla."

The NT News understands local police believe it to be a record.

Eleven traffic infringement notices were issued.

Police also said a 45-year-old man blew a whopping .273 and a 26-year-old man blew .085 per cent in the same area.

In a big night for regional police, officers charged a man near Daly River Bridge with driving unlicensed in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle with two unrestrained children aboard.

They seized 32 cans of beer, four bottles of wine, two bottles of spirits and two casks of wine.
