Lj70 coil springs

Hello guys!

As i am from Sweden i dont understand, nor speak finnish, so i hope english is Ok!

Where do one find coils for a landcruiser lj70 old body that raises more then just 50mm? the curent ones i have raises between 3 and 4", and one has broken, which means i need new ones, but searching the internet has given me no clues, except for offroadtarvike, but there must be more places..

Or perhaps there is coils for another car that fits the lj70? I have read some about some people fitting front hdj80 coils, which supposedly would give it a 4" lift, but i am thinking they would be far to hard for the rear, seeing as they are intended for the front?

Thanks for your reply, i did however see that link in the link section, but noone carries coils for more then maybe 65mm lift! mine is atleast 75mm higher then stock, maybe 90mm, so i dont want any lower then that, since i already have trouble clearing the fenders with these new beadlocks i got...

How about using coil spacers atop some shorter lift springs to achieve the desired lift, if you're unable to find exactly correct length ones?

Do you know spring rate and free lenght of coils you have now? Rover coils are used also. Upper coil seat is same diameter. In lower seat you can use rover coil seat. Requiers some grinding and welding.

I dont have the spring rate, but i have pretty much all the measurements of the coil..

Free length is uncomressed right? if so the free height is 485mm..

I used HDJ-80 springs ~10 years ago -> http://forums.offipalsta.com/showthr...ight=marimekko . HDJ rear springs are wider than LJ so frame requires some rework before they can be fitted. Later I heard new owner changed using HDJ-80 front springs in rear also, but not sure how it changed the suspension. I would not lift more than this amount with springs or spacers as radius arm upper bushings don't handle the big angle well. Also steering becomes awful unless you correct the caster.

Yes, the steering get's "interesting" so to say.. Mine is not that bad, but i did notice the difference before and after the lift.. I do however have plans to rotate the axle a bit and make new brackets for the axle...

I did send Timo an email just before christmas, but i've been at him for a year about the handbrake kits now, so either he's off duty, or just got tired of me bugging him...

Either way i think i'm going with the rover coils, they are just so much cheaper then lift coils for the landcruisers!

Yes. Uncompressed length is what i ment. Pretty long coils you have... I'm not sure are there coils for rover long enough to your rig.

How about "cut and turn" for axle housing instead of new brackets? Turning the axle housing with 100mm lift for proper caster angle might lead prop shaft u-joint binding when suspension is fully decompressed.

Yes, you are partially correct.. I have been in touch with Pedders, and all their coils is too short.. I found out through britparts website that the RRC coils is 390mm stock, so it is +4" lift coils i'd need.. I did find 2 kits though, one 4" and one 5", but they were over 1000£ and included new radius arms and everything..

Not quite sure what you mean with the "cut and turn" though..

Swivel ball is welded to axle housing. Fist measure current caster angle and decide what is your new caster angle. Then dissassemble everything you can from axle housing end. Just grind/cut out that welding. Swivel ball is piloted inside axle housing. Be careful and cut only thru axle housing. Then insert pipe thru trunnion bearing holes and measure casten angle. Then turn swivel ball to right position and measure caster angle. If ok weld it back.

Make sure that car is in desired height in first caster angle measurement. If you decide turn swivel balls for example 8° it is now easy to do because you know how much. No matter if axle housing is upside down. It is allways 8°

After all this work you might have some bump steer. And why? Because tie rod and panhard rod ought to be more or less parallel. Luckily panhard rod bracket is easy to modify.

Quite simple... isn't it?

After much doodling around i finally settled on front Hdj80 series springs! Got a tip from Jonas_k through PM, and bought a set of 4 OME +75mm fronts..

Did also order 4 procomp es9000 shocks from paddock yesterday evening.. Total length of 677mm, so they should suit me good!

Thanks for all of your advices! If i remember i'll post a couple of pictures here when i get everything fitted!

Here's some pictures of the new flex and ride-height after the new coils and dampers! Had to make 3 new mounts for the rear, and raise the upper ones a little bit!

I do think i have some more flex to give than in those pictures, because it was pretty slippery on road pressure! Turned to ice under the wheels instantly!

here's a couple of before piccies!
