kiitos 88 :)

why do we use manual gearbox Arska-tehtaalta? I like them more than automatic, if you break 1 gear then the gearbox will still work, if it gets very hot - it will still work, it doesnt mind if its upside down - it will still work, if it gets a lot of water in it - no problem
for me personally I find it easier to drive manual in swamp than automatic, I get to hear from the noise of the engine how hard it has to work so I can be soooooo gentle and not rip the surface, its also good with manual when you cannot see your wheels - when the pedal in up then you know the wheels are turning, you dont get that feedback with automatic. I dont think one is better than the other - its just preference and what Im used to :)

apiaani - we use defender seats because they are a lot more comfortable than racing seats, it sounds a little stupid but we drive for long periods and comfort becomes important also these are cheap, they recline, they're not too heavy, you can pull the bottom piece out without tools (in order to reach the battery) and most important they fit my 290kg fat ass!
I dont really like race seatbelts - I know they are safer but we get in and out of the car a lot and I like the fact I can reach something in the car without having to take off the belt, Kim found some nice belts that are race harness but still move - but we cant afford these

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-04-30.JPG

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-04-30.JPG

stared some more
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-01.JPG

started to paint some bodywork
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-01.JPG

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-05.JPG

do a little welding
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-04.JPG

get the drivers footwell sorted - all the controls are working now, we still need to do the hydraulics though
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-04.JPG

no offence taken! its the law here that your wheels must be covered when viewed from above, but I think that some pieces may "fall off" soon the good thing about truck mudguards is they are very light and when you push them into trees the bend and then go back to orginal shape, they are pretty cheap as well

welding pieces of exhaust pipe
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-02.JPG

now it clears
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-02.JPG

we look for an airbox- this one is from a Landrover V8, the filter is big enough..
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-03.JPG

...but it leaks, so out with the Tig again....
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-04.JPG

....and make a new one :)
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-04.JPG

this one keeps the water out - unlike the landrover one
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-04.JPG

so we make a hydraulic tank at the same time
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-06.JPG

we fit the windscreen - a nice guy cut 50mm from it (the cab is not as wide as a Defender)
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-06.JPG

now the engine bay looks a bit more like it :)
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-09.JPG

Gear levers (at long last)
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-08.JPG

hydraulic pump and linkage to make its gearbox work
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-08.JPG

control block and airbox fitted - we must make the snorkal still
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-09.JPG

winch gets fitted
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-09.JPG

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-14.JPG

its cheaper to make them than to buy them - and this way I know they will fit
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-...2008-05-14.JPG
