Hei!

Am trying to find out if you guys here in Finland stud your winter/off-road tires?

It is so common in Iceland(where i am from) to stud everything even up to the 50 plus inch tires and go off-roading during winter.

If so, can some one point me towards a company that sells studded off-road tires or drills and studs non studded off-road tires?

Am in Rovaniemi if that helps to localize dealers/sellers but willing to buy it from anywhere within the country(cheaper than if i have to buy tires in Iceland just to have them microcut and studded over there!).

am looking for something in the 35 and/or 38(.5) sizes.

Also looking for a tow ball for a 1978 Toyota BJ40 if anyone is selling those locally a point in their direction would be appreciated!

The BJ has a non standard rear bumper, would it be a problem for the inspections if i show up with it not bolted but welded on?

hi

i have used 33" and 35" studded offroad tires many years, we have local shop here that sells big tires, drills and studs those quite cheap. also many of my friends are using studded tires under their "offroad rigs" but otherwise its not so commonly seen in finland, many ppl. have only one round of tires that they use all the time.

i have now noticed that better is to use a bit smaller studs than you could fit to the tire, just add quantity of those instead. rubbing bigger studs against some rocks will damage tire around studs more (like in those tires in above pic. for sale btw.) than small ones.

i think most of the tire shops can arrange studded tires or making those for you...

and for a tow ball... 78 its so old that nobody can tell how old i your tow ball and when and where its done, just if its made properly and its strong enought it will be just fine.

Thanks for that info.

So using a receiver hitch and attachments for that(something height adjustable as i have 31 inch, 35 inch and 38,5 inch tires) would be legal?

something like these.

What is the standard towing ball size here in Finland?(used on most trailers/carts)
1 7/8 inch or 2 inch or 2 5/16 inch? (would rather not go for a multi ball system but i can if the receiver is legal here).

i dont know legal issue about that adjustable height hitch, but i have used 2 different lenght lowering hitches in those us. style reciver hitch mounts depending on tire size... ball should be between 350-450mm from the ground so 2 different heights been enought for my use.

Great, thanks for that.

Might just go for 3 different drop length ones and change out as is needed if the adjustable one would be a problem.

I will see if the inspection office here in Rovaniemi can give me any information about it.
